The Yoremade Landsknecht Doublet
Historical style that actually feels like real clothing.
If you’re looking to build a Landsknecht kit, you’re probably not trying to blend in. The 16th-century mercenaries who wore these were known for being bold and unapologetic, and our Yoremade doublet helps you capture that same energy. It has the classic "puff and slash" look that defines the era, but we’ve built it to handle the actual movement of a LARP or a long day at a festival.
The case for using wool
Most Landsknecht gear you’ll find is made from cotton canvas or that shiny polyester that looks alright from twenty feet away but feels like a cheap prop once you’re wearing it. Those fabrics just don't have the "bones" to hold the bold, boxy shape that makes a Landsknecht look iconic.
We wanted the Yoremade series to feel like real clothing, not a costume, so we went with a heavy, brushed wool blend. As far as we know, we’re the only ones offering this as an off-the-rack option. The 71% wool gives the doublet a solid weight and a matte finish that looks authentic under any light. By blending it with 29% nylon, we made sure the starburst slashes stay sharp and don't turn into a frayed mess after you've worn it for a few long weekends. It’s also just more comfortable to live in. It breathes when it's hot and stays warm when the sun goes down, which is exactly what you want when you’re out in the field.
A kit that stays in place
This doublet uses a split-color design, currently available in red and white or red and green. It gives you that traditional two-tone look without the need for a custom tailor.
The lacing is where the doublet really becomes practical. We used cords finished with metal aglets on the front and sides, so you can dial in the fit whether you're wearing a thin shirt or something a bit thicker underneath. You’ll also see reinforced holes along the bottom hem. These are a lifesaver for long events. Historically, soldiers laced their doublets directly to their hosen to keep everything from shifting around. It works just as well now as it did then, keeping your trousers up and your doublet from riding up while you're active.
Make the sleeves your own
We designed this as a sleeveless piece because half the fun of this style is customizing the look. There are hand-stitched holes at the shoulders for attaching sleeves, which we sell individually. This means you have total control over the silhouette. You can go for a more streamlined look with the Waterfall sleeve or get that massive mercenary volume with the Bloom sleeve. Since you buy them as singles, you can keep the colors matching or mix red and green for a mismatched, "found on the battlefield" vibe that’s unique to your character.
